When you have a one free day and want to travel along Chao Phraya River, here is the list of attractions you must not miss.
Starting from Phra Arthit pier, you will see an ivory white “Phra Sumen” fort. The fort was originally built since the period of King Rama I to guard the capital. Out of 14 forts, Phra Sumen fort is one of the two original forts that have remained until today. The fort is also located in the first public waterfront area of Bangkok.
Next is Tha Maharaj, a community mall located within a walking distance from the Grand Palace. It is the place where you can have handsome river view while enjoying your lunch or dinner. Apart from its elegant pavilion-style structure, Tha Maharaj is also decorated with modern art pieces, which will be perfect for your selfie photos.
Yodpiman River Walk is another recommended place. The colonial-style community mall features six connected buildings. It houses more than 60 retail shops and restaurants. The highlight is a 300m-long walkway along the riverbank where you can have panoramic view of the river.
Lhong 1919 is the latest attraction along the Chao Phraya River. Located in Khlong San district, it used to be a warehouse of Wanglee Family before being turned into a Sino-Thai historical art centre.
The place is well-known for the unique Chinese-style, two-storey shophouses and mural arts which some pieces are older than 160 years old. Lhong 1919 is also a hipsterish place to hang-out, dine and shop for high-end and creative products.
The last stop is Asiatique, one of the landmarks of Bangkok. Known for its classic warehouse setting, the shopping mall has more than 1,000 shops and food outlets. You can find anything you look for ranging from hand-made or art and craft products to home decorations. Another highlight is its Ferris Wheel. It is a romantic place for loving couples to hold hands while looking at sunset view over the Chao Phraya River.
